Healthy Alternatives To Coffee

Girlfriend, put down the pot a cawfee! You do not need ANOTHER cup!

If you find yourself living off of caffeine, you may be doing a number on your mental and physical health by creating more stress in your body.

"Studies in humans have shown that caffeine increases cortisol and epinephrine at rest, and that levels of cortisol after caffeine consumption are similar to those experienced during an acute stress. Drinking coffee, in other words, re-creates stress conditions for the body." -Precision Nutrition

Yikes! Now I don't think coffee all together is a bad thing, but if you are someone who reaches for more then one cup of coffee per day, check out these other alternatives to choose from (they will hydrate you, may help you lose weight, and feel better all around as well as give you an energy boost):

-Fire Tea: This warm mug of sweet and spicy goodness is great for your waistline, stabilizes your blood sugar and prevents cravings. Plus its ridiculously easy. There is no tried and true recipe (you throw in a little of this and a pinch of that), but you basically boil water with a couple cinnamon sticks and fresh chucks of ginger for twenty minutes to let the flavors seep. Once its ready, pour the mixture into a mug and drizzle with raw local honey. So good!

-Kombucha: This bubbly drink that houses "the mother" of healthy bacteria and yeast is a big go-to these days in the health world. It is made with green and black tea, good bacteria, yeast, alcohol, vinegar, vitamin B, and a smidge of sugar. It definitely has it's own taste, but doesn't mean you can't develop a liking for it- my nieces are obsessed. It is great for your gut and is naturally energizing.

-Coconut Water: This is one of the most milky, all natural hydrating liquids out there. Coconut water's electrolytes make it a great match for traditional sports drinks like Gatorade, however it is even better because it is low in calories and sugar, and high in potassium, calcium, and magnesium. I can't forget to mention all the antioxidants and amino acids it holds.

-Warm Lemon Water: Ooooooh, I know you know about my warm lemon water and if you don't... then here's the scoop. Squeeze half a lemon to luke warm water and drink it up. In the morning on an empty stomach is best to drink it as it aids in boosting your metabolism, cuts down on cravings, helps with digesting food, and alkalizes your body... but really any time of day works too.

Happy sipping!
