Don't Be An All Or Nothing Person

The Transform III program just came to an end on Sunday night. Each year I feel as though the program gets deeper and tighter- and this year just blew me away. Way before the program starts, I sit down and design an outline of what information and knowledge I can share to help someone on their journey of transformation. However, what I can never predict is how much and what the group will grasp on to- meaning specific words and actions over others. One bit of advice I have given to the ladies in all three groups over the years (and they ran with) is, "If you are an all or nothing person, you most likely are a nothing person."

Think about that for a second.

Let me paint you a picture. It's 5pm on Monday and I am stuck in traffic on the way to the gym coming home from work. I have one hour to workout, from 5:30-6:30pm, however I guesstimate that I will not get to the gym until 5:55pm. I decide that it is not worth going to the gym to only do a thirty five minute workout so I make a quick left turn and head some instead. I then go home and hang on the couch.

That is an all or nothing attitude.

That version of me most likely gets nothing done or throws her hands up easily when met with obstacles and lifestyle flub ups. She is most likely still chasing after the same goals, not happy on a soul level, and wonders why she can't build the life she wants for herself.

The real me would still go to the gym and smash an awesome thirty five minute workout (and work even harder because I know my time is limited and I need to make every second count). I would also go because I know I would feel better mentally and physically and that creates a ripple effect in other areas of my life. My life feels more complete and I try to flow with the situations that are given to me rather than surrender to the easiest way out.

When you have the opportunity to do something, even when it seems less then perfect, do it. Those little opportunities add up to big results- plus you can learn a lot about yourself. If you wait until the timing and situation is perfect, you most likely will get nothing done- because there is no such thing as perfect.

Ps- Please note that I am talking about all areas in life- not just your fitness.
